A new way to raise funds for McGL dancers – at no cost to yourself! 810 450 Isabel Yorke

McGL are proud to announce they are using easyfundraising to raise funds for our talented young dancers to travel to international competitions.
You can help raise funds for McGL simply by doing you online shopping via easyfundraising.org.uk.
This doesn’t cost you a penny more, but as you make purchases the online retailers make a donation to the dance school.
All you do is register and start shopping! There are over 3000 shops and sites on board, ready to make a donation including Amazon, John Lewis, Sainsbury’s and TheTrainline.

For example, simply by doing your weekly online Sainsbury’s shop via Easyfundraising could raise up to £2.50 each time!

There are no catches or hidden charges and McGL dancers are very grateful for your donations.

How to:

  • Every time you shop online, go to https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/mcgahanleesirishdancingacademy/ first to find the site you want and start shopping.
  • You can install a simple plug-in for your browser which will remind you to go through easyfundraising when you start shopping on a partner site.
  • There is even a smartphone app!
  • After you have checked out, the retailer will make a donation to McGL for no extra cost whatsoever.

Thank you for your support!

Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne 2018, Glasgow

Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne 2018, Glasgow 2560 1600 Isabel Yorke

This year’s World Championships, or Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne was held once again in the prestigious Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. As always, the competitions were large and extremely tough, with some age groups comprising as many as 150 qualified competitors.

It’s a week of fierce competition, but also of celebration, as dancers, families and teachers are reacquainted with friends from across the globe.

This year, we were lucky enough to gain five world medals, including the U16 Boys World Champion, Liam Costello.

McGL dancers also achieved many personal bests, whether that be dancing on the World stage for the first time, recalling, or coming in the top 20 or 30 competitors. Training for a World Championships is an enormous commitment, and we are so proud of all our qualifiers that undertook this journey in 2018.

McGL CELEBRATING Over 8 years of success in Europe.

Classes now held in
Czech Republic, Poland & Ukraine

For over 8 years our McGL Europe contingent has been growing and developing, with classes across Czech Republic and Poland.

During this time we have seen an accolade of achievements from beginners working through their grades to Aishling Award winners, European Oireachtas Titles and Top 10 World Championship placings.

We could not be prouder of the progress our dancers in Europe are making and their achievements are a testament to their hard work and dedication.

Fast forward to 2024 which saw the exciting expansion of our McGL Europe family with the opening of our newest McGL branch – McGL Ukraine. This will be the first active CLRG dance academy within the Ukraine and we hope we can bring a bit of normality on what are still extremely difficult times for their Nation. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for our newest group of dancers.

As members of RCCEA, we are proud to host our annual McGahan Lees Prague Feis and CLRG Grade Examinations, welcoming dancers from all over Europe which always promises to be an excellent display of dancing. Check back here soon for details of our 2024 feis!

We are so proud of how far we have come and can’t wait to see what the future holds for McGL Europe.

Classes now held in Poland (Warsaw, Krakow, Gliwice, Gdańsk, Jastrzębie Zdrój, Pobiedziska), Prague and Ukraine. For more information on our classes in these locations please enquire here.

From heavy shoes to cowboy boots, hair pieces to stetsons: Nashville, you brought it all and more! The amazing results speak for themselves and the memories were priceless.
Thank you to Frances, Guy and The Friends Of McGahan Lees for coordinating and supporting our dancers and MCGL families, enabling them to experience not 1 but 2 trips across the Atlantic this year! Team work really does make the dream work 🇨🇦🇺🇸
Not forgetting a big thank you to Grant for a fabulous photo-shoot. We can’t wait to see the final pics!

We have so much talent coming through the grades this year!
We are extremely proud of each and every one of these wonderful children and count ourselves very lucky to watch such beautiful dancing every week.
You all shined so brightly up on that stage.
Great work everyone!!
We run two class competitions each year. One in the summer and one at Christmas. Although the emphasis is on fun, and every dancer gets an award, these are aimed at preparing  dancers for external competitive performance. It’s also an opportunity for parents and family members to see what their dancers have been learning in classes. We now look forward to our Christmas Feis, which will take place in early December. If you’re an McGL dancer interested in competing, please speak to your teacher. For those already attending competitions, feis information can be found here.
